rs232 to usb

In 1962, several amazing technicians have postulated the RS232 serial communications project, and until 1998 everyone worked with this communications station really well. It was provide on all PCs, until recently. Today, if you'll check always the most recent models of computers for sale, you will learn more than half of the tower/desktop PCs do not need the serial RS232 connection (DB 9), and for certain no laptops have it. This is due to a group of just eight companies: they have identified they could quickly dairy additional money from consumers and designers, should they power the implementation of a "better" option to the old RS232.

Points are this way. A communications station must be exactly what it is: an easy hardware communications channel. Each application schedule or hardware component must manage to accessing the communications station quickly, just by establishing it, and this is exactly the event of the RS232 protocol. Because 1962 millions of applications have been prepared based on RS232 serial communications, and many of them are technical, special and really expensive. Based on the simplest principle in the digital earth, which claims "backwards rs232 to usb compatibility", it was reasoning and organic that RS232 would be upgraded to raised rates, and smaller screen connectors. Regrettably, reasoning doesn't promote well these days.

The reverse of the nice, reasonable reasoning claims: "You will want to make the serial communications station extremely tough to apply? Let's make that communications station driver so hard to apply that folks could be happy to pay money to have it presently done. Additionally, we may make this new serial communications station strictly dependent, such that it will continue to work just on one specific variation of Functioning Process; for various OS types, they will have to spend additional money! Even more, if some one is clever enough to produce this new serial communications station driver, then see your face or business will have to spend an annual subscription fee of, state, 10000 as much as 20000 USD, to be able to promote his or their products."

"Delay a moment; we are able to also promote an original rule number with each new driver, called 'Vendor's Code' so that just the big companies will afford finding one. The moderate and little designers, and the general public ultimately, will have to pay for it!"

"Could we make it worse?"

"Yes, we are able to remove all 'without any charge' RS232 connections, from all PCs, so that everyone will have to apply the 'better' communications channels. Ha, ha!"

"May we make it worse?"

"Yes, we do have many possibilities to make it worse, but we shall apply them slowly, one at a time, so our new supply of wealth won't dry out!"

"Today, to add insult to the injury, I would suggest naming the newest communications project "universal": the Universal Successive Coach!"

"Ha, ha, ha!"

A communications station it is like a required instrument: you buy it and work with it, you then put it right back wherever you took it from. You do not need certainly to work for 3 or 4 months to produce a "driver" for that channel--nobody made it happen with RS232. Today, implementing USB communications in a tiny task it is more challenging that the task itself, for many applications, and it is so expensive that little and moderate designers can't afford doing it: they have to get USB drivers from "qualified-vendors"!

Positive, the qualified-vendors will also be selling RS232-to-USB adaptors, but this is still a lot of added prices put into the absolutely free RS232 screen we had. However, what is actually worrying is, the development is to remove any track of free communications programs, from all PCs! With small efforts nowadays, the international neighborhood of designers and IEEE could get together and reinstate the old RS232 serial communications station, based on an improved and (easily) backwards suitable new RS232 protocol. This is not extremely tough and I present my help.

Take note; besides from being intentionally extremely tough to apply and costly, the USB project it is a proprietary one. That group of eight companies I mentioned features a license on it! This is not correct, because PC structure it is public domain, and same may be the old, trusted, RS232 serial communications channel. They belong to many of us, and it is our correct and duty to safeguard public domain from being stolen. When we do not protect our rights, today, be confident we will see more areas of our PCs becoming the home of few sets of companies, one by one.
